A gallant champion for the people, Vice Mayor Felicia Mychele Brunson decided early in life to become the change she wanted to see in her community and the world. Hailing from “The Mecca of Broward County,” Carver Ranches, Brunson began constructing change in her community right after graduating from college. Brunson’s hunger for change led her to become involved with the Homeowners Association, where she later served as vice president. Eventually, she was instrumental in the move to incorporate Carver Ranches and surrounding unincorporated communities into Broward County’s 31st city.

In March 2005, Brunson made history by becoming one of the inaugural City Commissioners for West Park. Today, Brunson remains the youngest member of the entire Commission.

An advocate for youth, senior citizens, quality education, access to social services and affordable healthcare, Brunson has earned the reputation as a voice for the young and the young at heart. As founder and president of the non-profit organization, Visions of Images, Inc., Brunson desires to bridge the inter generational gap between youth and senior citizens.

In her spare time Brunson mentors, volunteers time feeding senior citizens, coordinates back to school supplies for needy students, provides Thanksgiving baskets and Christmas gifts to needy families, coordinates senior social activities and health fairs, and provides a well-balanced summer female youth development program for girls aged 12-18.

Because of her activism, Vice Mayor Brunson earns widespread support from various groups, organizations, her constituents and colleagues. Brunson has received multiple awards, and is particularly appreciative of being the NAACP’s 2004 Recipient of the Eula G. Johnson Community Servant Award. Additionally, she received the Women Elected to Municipal Government’s Empowering Women Award, the ABWA Government Official of the Year Award, and the Top Hat Community Service Award.

Never too busy to give back to her community and those who helped her succeed, Brunson currently serves with the following organizations: Leadership Florida; Broward League of Women Voters; Young Elected Officials Network; Dr. John A McKinney Academy Board. Additionally, Vice Mayor Brunson sits as Chair of the City of West Park/American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life Committee; Member of the Carver Ranches Boys & Girls Club Board; Census Committee Chair; and Women of Tomorrow Mentor.

Dually enrolled at Florida State University and Florida A&M University, she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Communications with specialization in Journalism. She also holds a Master of Science degree in English Education, and an Educational Specialist degree in Administration and Management of Educational Programs from Nova Southeastern University.
