Chief Michael Kane began his public safety career in 1990 and began serving with Broward Sheriff’s Office Fire Rescue in 1994.
Chief Kane has risen through the ranks at BSO Fire Rescue from Firefighter/Paramedic, Acting Driver/Engineer, Lieutenant, Captain and is now a Battalion Chief assigned to Regional Fire Rescue Communications support as well as the District Liaison for the West Park / Pembroke Park District. Chief Kane also serves as a member of Broward County Regional Emergency Medical Services Advisory Council.
Chief Kane’s past assignments include: Fire and Rescue Operations, Hazardous Materials team member, Regional Communications and Air Rescue which he had served as the program coordinator. Chief Kane has previously served as chair of the Broward County Fire Chief’s Association Communications Subcommittee.
Chief Kane holds an Associate degree in Fire Science Technology from Broward College as well as a Bachelor and Master’s degree in Public Administration from Barry University. Chief Kane is a State of Florida Fire Instructor III, is certified by National Wildfire Coordination Group as a Communications Leader (COM-L) and is a certified Terrorism Liaison Officer (TLO) through the Southeast Florida Fusion Center.
Chief Kane has received numerous awards and commendations such as BSO Employee of the year, community service awards, Paramedic of the Year and numerous Unit Citations.
